M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. You will be responsible for

  • Working in close collaboration with curators across multiple disciplines, you will be responsible for defining and articulating key messages and visitor outcomes for exhibitions that connect with target audiences
  • Supervising the work of other interpretation team members and working across the learning and digital teams to ensure key messages and outcomes for exhibitions are applied and understood and work in tandem with programming and other audience development goals
  • Develop compelling ways of telling stories about objects, artworks and ideas through varying means – text, interactives, audio guides and other in gallery visitor experiences.
  • Ensure the interpretive plan is consistently realized through close teamwork with curators, designers, and multimedia producers.
  • Overseeing our in-gallery interpretation offerings, including the M+ Guides Programme, our VIP and tertiary tour, that includes creating and developing content for a range of drop-in and registered tours, and related training program for M+ Guides related to exhibition with the team.
  • Building relationships within the volunteer guide and educator community when needed
  • Plan and lead visitor research projects that develop knowledge about interpretive experiences across exhibitions and collections
  • Contributing expertise across the wider learning and curatorial teams and museum field
  • Contributing to strategic planning and work across team on communicating the role of interpretation within the institution.

You should

  • possess a recognised university degree, preferably in museum education, journalism, communications, creative media, cultural management or equivalent;
  • have at least 6 years of professional experience in museum education or curation, communications or print journalism or digital storytelling mediums
  • have proven experience telling compelling stories for different in formal learning outlets
  • have strong research skills with demonstrated commitment to learning, and maintain up-to-date knowledge with the literature and practices of learning and interpretation issues in contemporary museums;
  • be a diplomatic and collaborative team player with proven leadership and facilitation skills; and
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
