M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.

You will be responsible for

  • working with the M+ curatorial team to produce and edit English copy related to all museum initiatives;
  • editing and proofreading all English texts related to exhibitions, public programmes, learning programmes, publications, and web content generated by M+;
  • reviewing M+ books and providing editorial advice on the overall publication;
  • working closely with internal M+ parties as well as with WKCDA departments, such as Marketing and Customer Experience, Communications and Public Affairs, and External Affairs, to ensure consistency in content and language of all published materials; and
  • liaising with external parties including, but not limited to, designers, translators and copyeditors.

You should

  • possess a recognised university degree relevant in English, journalism, art history, visual culture studies, or other related disciplines;
  • have 6-7 years of experience as an editor at a museum or equivalent field, such as journalism or publishing related to art, design, or visual culture;
  • have demonstrated experience in collaborating with stakeholders on published materials related to exhibitions, public programmes, or learning programmes;
  • have in-depth experience in and knowledge of managing editorial processes and workflows;
  • possess proven experience in developing and implementing editorial policies and guidelines; and
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Chinese written and verbal communication skills as well as translation experience are an advantage.
