M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Reporting to the Head, Editorial and Publishing, the Manager, Publishing, is responsible for successfully, creatively, and efficiently managing all of M+’s publications projects, from inception through production to distribution, and ensuring quality, on-brand publications are delivered on time and within budget.

You will be responsible for

  • working closely with the Head, Editorial and Publishing, to develop museum publications inspired by the M+ Collections and exhibitions;
  • coordinating with the different teams and departments of M+, shared services of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), publishers, and other external parties;
  • leading and developing the publications team;
  • identifying potential publication opportunities and strategic partnerships;
  • managing the publication lifecycle from concept to production and distribution, ensuring the final publications are on brand, on time, and within budget;
  • providing professional advice to the management team regarding consumer preferences and behaviours, maintaining the competitive advantage of M+ publications as well as their market positioning; and
  • managing the annual budget for publications, including cost management, profit and loss.

You should

  • possess recognised university degree or above in languages, fine arts, business administration, or other relevant disciplines;
  • have at least 8-10 years of experience in publications or editorial project management as well as 3-4 years of managerial experience;
  • have solid knowledge of the local and international publication market, particularly for arts & culture-related publications;
  • have a successful track record of results-oriented project management, demonstrating strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • possess excellent interpersonal communication, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously with strict deadlines;
  • have hands-on experience with MS Office software, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as PowerPoint; experience in InDesign and/or Asana are an advantage; and
  • possess excellent communication skills in both written and oral English. Chinese written and verbal communication skills are an advantage.
