Gen Z's Desire To Disconnect From Work

Almost half of Gen Z (46%) would choose to be "severed," reflecting a strong desire to separate work from personal memories. This insight comes from research conducted by the workplace mental health platform Unmind.

Moreover, a significant number of employees feel overwhelmed by their work, with 41% struggling to switch off when not at work. Nearly half (44%) regularly check work emails during their off-hours.

Compounding this issue, 40% of employees reported being contacted by their employers outside of working hours.

Similarly, one in three employees (33%) have pretended to be busy at work to appear productive. This phenomenon is more prevalent among Gen Z, reaching nearly half (47%).

Over a third of respondents (38%) maintain a 'work persona' distinct from their true selves, with this figure rising to 52% among Gen Z. Furthermore, 30% feel that their job takes up too much of their identity, increasing to 44% for Gen Z.

While 56% of respondents are satisfied with their work-life balance, 29% have considered quitting due to poor balance, and 36% feel guilty about taking time off. These statistics reveal a growing disconnect between employees and their work, highlighting the urgent need for workplace reform.
