Where you come in The Head of Royalties will play a pivotal role in Beatport’s global finance and royalty operations, working closely with cross-functional teams including Legal Affairs, Data Services, and external rights holders. Reporting to the SVP, Finance, you will contribute to developing the processes and infrastructure of a rapidly expanding department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to make a significant impact on the day-to-day financial operations of the company. You will own all aspects of royalty processing and reporting, including sound recordings, publishing, and mechanical royalties.
This role can be based in the UK or USA and ideally working hybrid in London, or Los Angeles, although we will consider full remote but the successful candidate MUST be based in the UK or USA and hold a valid right to work without the need for sponsorship.
As Head of Royalties, your responsibilities will be
- Contracts + Calculation Collaborate with internal teams to review and interpret complex licensing agreements. Manage a master database of key contract terms (e.g., royalty rates, calculation formulas, product, territory, approved channels, etc.) Be the primary finance stakeholder in external supplier deal negotiations and internal product strategy discussions; provide feedback on royalties impact Implement, own and manage new internal royalties software
- Reporting Responsible for strict adherence to all rightsholder reporting requirements and deadlines for timely payments; track all guarantee and advance payments to ensure accuracy and compliance Prepare and maintain royalty summaries for financial tracking, including the accrual process Ability to plan and project anticipated royalties based on historical data
- Audit Analyze large sets of sales and royalties data; develop reconciliations and controls to identify fluctuations with balances and payments Investigate and analyze supplier claims, proposed adjustments, and settlements
- Process + Documentation Develop and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure manuals for all relevant tasks Identify and implement process improvements to streamline or strengthen the calculation, reporting, and payment processes
As Head of Royalties, you will need
- Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in financial analysis, accounting, or royalties
- Experience in the licensing industry with focus on royalty participation
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
- Working knowledge of SQL, Record Maestro, Curve, or other similar royalty software platform
- Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills with ability to adhere to rules and processes; Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
