Assistant Curator, Visual Art
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. You will be responsible for
- supporting the curatorial team in all events and activities related to museum business and curatorial affairs with a focus on visual art;
- researching objects in the museum collection, liaising with artists, collection registrars and conservators to maintain accurate records;
- assisting in the planning and development of displays, exhibitions and other visual art related programmes, reporting to the project curator;
- assisting in the research and execution of acquisitions for the museum collection;
- contributing to the writing, editing, and production of museum texts, including publications, wall texts, and object labels;
- working closely with other curatorial teams including Design and Architecture, Moving Image, Digital Programmes, Learning and Interpretation, and Editorial, in the above capacities when required;
- contributing to the general development of M+ programmes and events, including generating content ideas; and
- supporting other ad hoc duties when required.
You should
- possess a recognised university degree relevant to Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Studies, or other related disciplines;
- have at least 4 years of experience in coordinating, planning and/or organising exhibitions and other public programmes;
- demonstrate strong research skills and experience with ability to conduct research independently;
- have knowledge of 20th and 21st centuries visual art from Hong Kong, China and Asia in particular;
- have good oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage; and
- have strong organisational skills, be able to work collaboratively and with tight timeframes and competing priorities.
