De Ying Associate Curator, Visual Art
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. The museum reflects our unique time and place, building on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for
- researching M+ Collection, with a focus on the M+ Sigg collection and contemporary art and artistic practices in the greater China region;
- preparing and proposing acquisitions for the M+ Collection, in consultation with Lead Curator, Visual Art and Sigg Curator, and assisting with research, communications, and coordinating of potential acquisitions with various external parties;
- participating in curatorial workshops, contributing ideas and generating content relating to contemporary Chinese art for online platforms, public programs, and other museum outlets;
- coordinating and managing curatorial projects, such as Sigg Prize, Sigg Fellowship, temporary displays, workshops, talks and conferences as assigned; and
- contributing to the general development of M+, including different stages of the building's development and of digital projects.
You should
- possess a recognised university degree relevant to Contemporary Art, Art History, Visual Culture, Museum Studies or other related disciplines;
- have at least 6 years of relevant research or curatorial experience in the field of contemporary art discourse and knowledge production;
- showcase an excellent knowledge of contemporary visual art with a solid understanding of the art field in China;
- possess solid experience of working in a museum setting or a large-scale arts organisation with international scope; and
- have excellent oral and written communication skills m English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua is a must.
